  2. Use a Trusted Preparer: Work with a qualified and reputable tax professional. Look for preparers with a valid Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN).
  3. Go Directly to the Source: File your taxes through official IRS-approved software or websites.

  5. Protect Your Devices: Keep your computer, phone, and Wi-Fi network secure by updating software and using strong passwords.

Spotting Red Flags
  • You get an email or text saying it’s from the IRS (the IRS never contacts people this way).
